Cell phone of young strangled woman in Santana was traded for crack; police investigate robbery followed by murder

A young woman was murdered in Santana, Brazil, with her cell phone exchanged for crack by the suspect, who has been arrested and confessed to the crime under the influence of drugs.

Cláudio Pacheco, known as 'Coringa', aged 42, has been arrested in connection with the strangulation and murder of 19-year-old Ana Paula Viana Rodrigues. Following the crime, he confessed to exchanging her cell phone for six pieces of crack at a local drug trade point. The incident has been officially categorized by authorities as robbery followed by murder, or latrocínio, rather than femicide, due to the absence of a personal relationship between the suspect and the victim.

According to the investigation by the Civil Police, Pacheco is a known drug user and was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the murder. The police have highlighted the incident's nature, noting that it involved theft and not misogynistic motives. Delegado Anderson Ramos clarified that the crime falls under Article 157 of the Brazilian Penal Code, emphasizing the need to differentiate between robbery-related deaths and those motivated by domestic violence.

The police are currently investigating the matter further, including the tracing of the victim's phone, which has led to locations identified as drug dealing hotspots in Santana. The investigation aims to uncover more details surrounding the events that led to the tragic outcome, potentially shedding light on the broader issues of drug-related violence in the community.
