Heavy rains in Maricá have caused trees to fall, resulting in damage to a house and obstructing roads in various neighborhoods.
Heavy rains in Maricá, Brazil, have led to several incidents of trees falling in the municipality over the weekend. On Monday morning, a large tree toppled onto a house, damaging part of the structure, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Emergency teams promptly cut and removed the fallen tree to mitigate the situation.
In addition to the house damage, another tree fell onto a street in the Dom Felipe neighborhood of São José do Imbassaí, obstructing traffic with its branches. Local authorities sent a crew to clear the roadway. Similar incidents of fallen branches and trees were recorded in other neighborhoods, including Caxito, Ponta Negra, and Bambuí, highlighting the widespread impact of the rain.
The highest recorded rainfall was in the Ponta Negra district, accumulating 43.23 mm between Sunday and Monday. Responding to the adverse weather, teams from the Civil Defense and the Municipal Works Department (Somar) were deployed to patrol high-risk areas for potential landslides, as safety remains a primary concern for the local government.
