The Hospital Regional de Presidente Prudente, located in São Paulo, is facing a critical shortage of blood supplies, currently holding only two bags of type O-. This situation is alarming as the hospital caters to approximately 45 municipalities in the western part of the state, making it a vital medical resource for a large population. The limited blood supply could severely impact ongoing medical procedures that require transfusions, as well as endanger the lives of patients in critical condition who rely on timely transfusions for survival.

In light of this situation, the hospital has launched an urgent appeal to the community for blood donations. They emphasize that each donation has the potential to save up to four lives, highlighting the importance of community involvement in replenishing the blood bank. The Colsan Blood Collection Charitable Association supports the initiative by providing information on how the body replenishes blood components after donation. Plasma can be restored within 24 hours, while other components such as red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells take a few days to recover naturally.

To facilitate donations, the hospital invites individuals aged 16 to 69 years to visit the Nucleus of Hemotherapy at the hospital. Donors are required to bring an official identification document with a photo. This initiative not only aims to replenish vital blood supplies but also reinforces the message of community responsibility and the critical role that individuals play in supporting local health services, particularly during emergencies.
