Dangutė Mikutienė, who ended up in court, lost her position in Trakai

Dangutė Mikutienė has been dismissed from her role as head of the Trakai Hospital following allegations of corruption and abuse of power involving embezzlement of funds.

The Vilnius District Prosecutor's Office has announced that a corruption case against Dangutė Mikutienė, the director of Trakai Hospital, has been brought to court. She is accused of document forgery, embezzlement, and abuse of power. The investigation revealed that in 2022, Mikutienė faked a document that led to two employees receiving additional salary payments, which were then redirected to her personal bank account, resulting in a total financial loss of €475 for the hospital, Trakai district municipality, and the state.

Mikutienė's termination from her position was reportedly reached by agreement, although the Trakai district municipality has not extensively communicated about her dismissal. The indication of her removal was only referenced in an official decree issued by the mayor, Andrius Šatevičius. This situation raises concerns regarding governance and corruption within local healthcare institutions and highlights the need for improved oversight to prevent such occurrences in the future.

As the case unfolds in court, it may set a precedent for similar cases in Lithuania, where accountability in public services is increasingly coming under scrutiny. The decision to hold public officials accountable for financial misconduct could serve as a warning to others in positions of power and influence within the public sector.
