Fined Council Member S. Berletaitė Receives Reduced Penalty but Loses Mandate
The Lithuanian Court of Appeals has upheld a three-year ban on politician S. Berletaitė from working in public service due to misconduct involving the misappropriation of municipal funds, though her fine was reduced.
The Lithuanian Court of Appeals recently decided to uphold a three-year ban on S. Berletaitė, a member of the Neringa Council, from working in any state service or being elected to any office in the public sector. This decision comes after Berletaitė was found guilty of committing a criminal act by misappropriating municipal funds by submitting false fuel receipts. Despite her attempts to claim innocence, the judges determined that her actions constituted criminal behavior. Judge Aiva Survilienė announced this conclusion during the court proceedings.
