Police set up office to investigate cases of burned buses in Porto Alegre
The Military Police Command of Porto Alegre has established a management office to investigate the recent arsons of buses in the city.
The Military Police Command in Porto Alegre has formed a dedicated management office to investigate the recent incidents involving the arson of buses. On Monday afternoon, two vehicles were set ablaze at the terminal of bus line 656 - Passo das Pedras in the Morro Santana neighborhood, with two suspects reportedly using a gasoline canister to start the fire. The police have indicated that one person has been arrested in connection with these criminal acts, although his name has not been disclosed.
The newly formed office combines efforts from various security agencies, including the Military Brigade and Civil Police, to coordinate the investigation and identify other individuals involved in the arsons. Eyewitness reports indicate that the bus at the intersection of Avenida Antônio Giudice and Rua Padre Máximo Coghetto was completely destroyed, while a second bus was also damaged but managed to be controlled and removed by the company. Fortunately, the bus driver was not on board during the attack, mitigating potential injuries.
This incident underscores the broader issue of public safety and violence in urban centers of Brazil, as targeted attacks on public transportation can instill fear in commuters and disrupt daily activities. The timely response from law enforcement not only aims to bring the perpetrators to justice but also to reassure the public regarding their safety while using public transit, emphasizing the need for further protective measures against such criminal actions in the future.
