A man has been arrested in connection with the burning of a bus in São Luís, Brazil, which was set ablaze to demand improvements for local communities.
A man was arrested by the Maranhão Civil Police for his suspected involvement in the August 14, 2025, burning of a bus in rural São Luís. This bus was serving the Porto Grande neighborhood when it was torched following the evacuation of passengers and the driver. Authorities indicated that the act was related to demands for improvements in the Porto Grande and Taim communities in the rural region of the capital.
The bus was completely destroyed by the fire. An investigation was initiated that led to the identification of the suspect, who was arrested following a warrant issued by the 1st Central Guarantees of the District of São Luís Island. After his arrest, he was questioned and subsequently placed into the prison system, pending further judicial proceedings.
