They are drastically cutting the price of monthly passes in Oslo and Akershus: Check the new prices here
Oslo is significantly reducing the price of monthly transportation passes, benefiting commuters in the region.
The city government of Oslo has announced a substantial reduction in the price of monthly transportation passes, marking a significant political victory for the ruling coalition. Starting May 3, the price for a pass in zone 1 will be reduced by 150 NOK, bringing it down to 655 NOK. Additionally, the prices in Akershus are also being lowered by 100 to 400 NOK, aimed at making public transportation more accessible for residents. With support from the state contributing 342 million NOK towards these reductions, the local government aims to enhance mobility for families, particularly benefiting children and youth with increased freedom to travel.
The price cuts are part of a broader political strategy by the HΓΈyre-Venstre coalition that took power in 2023, during which the price of a monthly pass had consistently been decreasing. When this government assumed office, fares were as high as 853 NOK; now, with the upcoming changes, the price reduction reflects the ongoing commitment to affordable and efficient public transit. This latest adjustment represents the largest cut in monthly pass prices since 2024, aligning with the government's promise to eventually reduce the monthly pass price to 499 NOK.
As public transportation remains a critical component of urban infrastructure, these price adjustments are expected to have a notable impact on commuting patterns within Oslo and Akershus. By making public transport more affordable, the city hopes not only to increase ridership but also to encourage eco-friendly travel habits among its citizens. The initiative signifies a commitment to reducing barriers to public transport usage, thereby promoting sustainable urban mobility.
