Fire guts medical lab at Plateau college

A fire at the Plateau State College of Health Technology destroyed the medical laboratory section, and the cause is still unknown as assessments are ongoing.

On Tuesday morning, a significant fire outbreak destroyed the medical laboratory at the Plateau State College of Health Technology located in Zawan community, Jos South LGA. The college Provost, Atangs Ishaku, confirmed the incident in an interview, noting that the cause of the fire remains unknown and they are currently assessing the damage. The fire was first reported around midnight, prompting the Provost to contact the Federal Fire Service for assistance.

However, the response from the Federal Fire Service was delayed as they experienced issues with their fire truck. Ishaku had to reach out to another fire team, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already spread significantly, rendering the laboratory section completely destroyed. This has caused great distress among the students, many of whom expressed feelings of frustration regarding the situation. The inability to access vital medical training facilities raises concerns about the academic disruptions this incident may cause.

Local officials are now left to evaluate the damage and determine the next steps for the college. The incident underscores the importance of reliable emergency services and raises questions about infrastructure and safety protocols at educational institutions during emergencies. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire further, while students wait to see how the college will recover from this unfortunate event.
