Meier finished fifth in the international competition in Portugal

Maaris Meier secured a fifth place finish in an international mountain biking competition held in Portugal.

Maaris Meier recently participated in an international Olympic cross-country mountain biking competition in Paredes de Coura, Portugal, where she finished fifth. The event, which is classified as a UCI C2 race, was dominated by the 20-year-old Portuguese cyclist Beatriz Guerra, who won with a time of 1:18.37. Meier completed the race in 1:29.05, placing her among the top competitors.

During the race, Meier described the challenging conditions of the course, which featured significant elevation changes and large rocks. Although she started off well, she encountered a tough first uphill section that put her momentarily behind other competitors. Despite a strategic choice to take an alternate route in an attempt to overtake others, she found herself further delayed when rejoining the main course. However, she managed to recover her position to seventh place after the first round.

The competition highlighted Meier's resilience and ability to adapt to unexpected challenges during the race. Her performance not only showcases her skills but also serves to promote mountain biking in Estonia as she competes on an international stage. With key competitors like Guerra setting a standard for future races, Meier's experience will be vital as she prepares for upcoming challenges in her sport.
