Yle: An Exception Permit was Requested from the Eurovision for Lindan and Peten's Performance

UMK winners Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen are preparing for the Eurovision Song Contest in May, having requested a special permit for their fiery performance elements.

Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen, the winners of the UMK (Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu), are in high spirits as they prepare for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in May. According to Yle, a detailed 30-page guide has been submitted to the Austrian organizers of the Eurovision about how their performance of the song "Liekinheitin" (Flame Thrower) will be executed on stage. The performance is notable for its incorporation of fire elements, which has prompted the artists to request an exception permit to use specific pyrotechnics that were designed and produced by a Finnish company.

Typically, the organization of the Eurovision is responsible for managing the pyrotechnics for safety reasons. This year, however, the stage production team has asked for permission to use the custom fire elements within their window set piece, which has also been referred to as the "confession chair." The UMK producer Matti Myllyaho has indicated to Yle that there might be some adjustments to the set in order to accommodate the narrower catwalk at the Eurovision venue compared to the UMK stage, ensuring that the camera can navigate around the flaming set piece safely.

The submission of the guide and the request for permits highlights the importance of safety considerations alongside the entertainment value that such fire elements bring to performances. The potential for modification in the staging also underscores the need for flexibility among performers and production teams as they adapt their artistic visions to comply with venue specifications and safety regulations, showcasing the intricate balance between creativity and compliance in live performances.
