Police targets Chapadão traffickers suspected of invading rival communities and acting with extreme violence against residents
Police have arrested two traffickers in Chapadão suspected of orchestrating violent invasions of rival communities in Rio de Janeiro.
On Tuesday morning, agents from the Drug Enforcement Division (DRE) arrested two members of the Comando Vermelho criminal organization in Chapadão, Rio de Janeiro. These individuals were allegedly responsible for coordinating violent invasions into rival territories, particularly targeting the Morro do Chaves community in the northern part of the city. Law enforcement's actions included executing 14 search and seizure warrants related to these criminal activities.
The police investigation revealed that the traffickers not only commit violent acts against residents but also receive assistance from allies in other neighborhoods, which escalates the violence within these confrontations. For instance, in a recent invasion, a 60-year-old resident named Marli dos Santos was tragically killed after being shot in the head, highlighting the dire consequences of these territorial disputes. Such violent incidents contribute to an environment of fear among the local population and raise concerns over gang warfare in urban areas.
With reports indicating that traffickers from Jardim Catarina in São Gonçalo are crossing the Guanabara Bay to help their Chapadão counterparts, the situation suggests a growing network of criminal collaboration that seeks to exert control over more areas. This intricate interplay of local gangs not only endangers lives but also threatens the stability of communities, prompting a call for increased law enforcement efforts to tackle organized crime in Rio de Janeiro.
