Lee Jae-ryong, under police investigation for drunk driving, says 'I apologize for causing concern; I did not realize the accident'

Actor Lee Jae-ryong is under police investigation for suspecting drunk driving and fleeing the scene after an accident, expressing regret for causing concern to the public.

Actor Lee Jae-ryong has come under police investigation following a suspected drunk driving incident where he allegedly fled the scene. During the inquiry, he expressed his apologies for any distress his actions may have caused, stating, 'I did not realize the accident.' The investigation, which took place at the Gangnam Police Station, lasted approximately four hours, during which he admitted to having drunk alcohol before driving, although initially he seemed to deny the drunk driving charge. He acknowledged that he had consumed four shots of soju and believed he merely grazed the central guardrail before fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred on the night of June 6th, when Lee, allegedly intoxicated, collided with a central guardrail near the Samseongjungang station in Gangnam and subsequently left the scene. He spent a few hours at a friend’s residence before being apprehended by police around 2 a.m. the following morning. Reports indicated that his blood alcohol content was at a level sufficient for license suspension. Previously, Lee has faced issues with drunk driving, having his license revoked in 2003 for a similar offense and receiving a suspended prosecution in 2019 for damage caused while intoxicated.

Following the investigation, the police will determine how to proceed with Lee's case. Given his history of previous incidents related to drunk driving, there may be significant legal repercussions. This current event not only puts Lee’s career at risk but also raises broader concerns regarding celebrity behavior and public responsibility towards drinking and driving, especially considering prior warnings and campaigns against such actions.
