'Non-Nuclear Kobe Method' Commemoration Event, City Refuses Support Due to Differences in Views on US Naval Entry
The city of Kobe refused to support a commemoration event for the 'Non-Nuclear Kobe Method' due to discrepancies between the event's literature and the city's stance on the entry of US naval ships without a non-nuclear certificate.
The city of Kobe has decided not to support a commemorative event marking the 51st anniversary of the 'Non-Nuclear Kobe Method' resolution, which calls for foreign vessels entering Kobe Port to present a non-nuclear certificate. This resolution was adopted by the Kobe City Council in 1975, and the event has been organized annually by various peace advocacy groups, with city support untill now. However, this year marks the first instance since 2009 that the city has denied support for the event, citing discrepancies regarding the presentation of non-nuclear certificates by US naval vessels, particularly following the entry of the minesweeper Warrior in March 2025 without such documentation.
