Kobe City to propose subsidy plan of 1500 yen per month for 'Kobekatsu' membership fees to the city council

Kobe City announced plans to support 'Kobekatsu' activities by subsidizing membership fees for students at 1500 yen per month, set to start in September.

Kobe City has revealed plans to subsidize monthly membership fees for the new 'Kobekatsu' initiative, which allows students to participate in community-led extracurricular activities instead of the existing middle school club activities. This subsidy is aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents, as the estimated average fee could be around 3200 yen per month per student. The city intends to provide 1500 yen per student per month, with higher support for low-income families. In addition to the membership fee subsidy, Kobe City is funding a 'Kobekatsu Support Fund' with an allocation of 1 billion yen to further assist local organizations with equipment purchases and other associated costs. This fund is expected to release about 50 million yen annually for the maintenance and updating of sports equipment and musical instruments managed by these local organizations. Moreover, to accommodate students from schools with limited local club options, the city will launch a pilot project utilizing a taxi matching service for full public transport subsidies. This service is set to begin in September and aims to ensure equitable access to extracurricular activities for all students, highlighting the city’s commitment to enhancing community engagement and support for youth development.
