A. Gedvilas spoke about connections and favor with the gas station network 'Jozita'
A. Gedvilas denies any connections or dealings with the gas station network 'Jozita', amidst allegations arising from a journalistic investigation.
In a recent press statement, A. Gedvilas addressed allegations regarding his connections to the gas station chain 'Jozita', stating that the claims are outdated and based on experiences from his past when he was not active in politics. He emphasized that all transactions related to his business were conducted legitimately through notarized documents, dismissing the allegations as trivial and unfounded. Gedvilas indicated that he has had no dealings with 'Jozita' and asserted his focus remains on his responsibilities within the political sphere.
The allegations surfaced following a report by the investigative journalism center 'Siena', which highlighted that Gedvilas, along with his then-wife Jolanta Gedvilienė, controlled a company called 'Aidma' that owned two gas stations in the Šiauliai region. These stations were sold for 645,000 euros to a company led by their son named 'Soltekana', only to be subsequently sold to the 'Jozita' network at a lower price in 2016. This sequence of transactions raises questions about potential conflicts of interest and the motivations behind his legislative efforts related to alternative fuels.
As a former member of the Seimas, Gedvilas had previously proposed amendments to the Alternative Fuels Law, advocating for the expansion of alternative fuel resources. The timing of these legislative proposals in conjunction with the transactions linked to 'Jozita' has led to scrutiny regarding the integrity of his political actions and decisions. This situation not only poses challenges for Gedvilas but also highlights the ongoing issues of transparency and accountability in Lithuanian politics, sparking discussions about the need for more stringent measures against potential corruption in the public sector.
