Veterinarian: Regular grooming helps alleviate cats' shedding
Veterinarian Vanessa Viira explains that regular grooming and stress reduction can help mitigate cats' shedding during their fur change.
In a recent interview on "Terevisioon," veterinarian Vanessa Viira discussed the common issue of cat shedding and how owners can manage it. Viira emphasized the importance of regular grooming, noting that it can help alleviate the symptoms of shedding and reduce stress for the cats. While it is normal for cats to vomit a few hairballs each month, owners can assist their pets by providing dietary supplements that aid in hairball digestion if issues arise.
Viira elaborated that shedding in cats occurs year-round, but it becomes more intense in spring and autumn, typically lasting one to two months. There is no miraculous solution to stop shedding quickly; rather, it is a natural biological process that cannot be completely halted. Grooming cats at least once a week can help manage this process, making it easier for both the cat and the owner as loose hair is removed before it can accumulate in the home.
Moreover, Viira highlighted that cats are inherently clean animals, constantly grooming themselves, which can make shedding less visible to owners. However, this natural shedding process can become problematic if accompanied by additional symptoms like bald patches or irritations, indicating that owners should monitor their pets and seek veterinary advice if they notice any abnormal signs related to shedding.
