IMPORTANT: 3 reasons why you should spay or neuter your cat right now
The Estonian Animal Protection Society urges cat and dog owners to book veterinary appointments for spaying or neutering their pets to prevent unwanted litters and promote better health.
The Estonian Animal Protection Society (ELS) is calling on all cat and dog owners to schedule appointments with veterinarians for the sterilization or castration of their pets. This responsible decision is crucial in preventing unwanted litters, reducing health risks for the pets, and creating a calmer and safer environment for them. The ELS emphasizes the importance of this practice in managing local animal populations.
According to Olev Järvala, head of the direct assistance department of ELS, a single unspayed female cat can give birth to two litters annually, totaling 6 to 12 kittens. Cats reach sexual maturity quickly, which can lead to an exponential increase in the cat population if these kittens also reproduce. The sterilization or neutering of one animal can help prevent nearly a hundred unwanted offspring, thus alleviating the burden on shelters and reducing the overall number of homeless animals in the community.
Sterilization and castration not only help in controlling animal populations but also have significant benefits for the health of pets. These procedures can prevent various health issues that are common in unaltered animals, such as certain cancers and infections. Overall, spaying and neutering contribute to a more stable community environment and improve the welfare of pets and strays alike.
