Man seriously injured after being stabbed inside the mosque of Tetuán

A 30-year-old Maghreb man was seriously injured after being attacked with a knife inside an Islamic cultural center in Tetuán, Madrid.

In the early hours of Tuesday, a 30-year-old Algerian national sustained severe injuries after being assailed with a knife inside the Islamic cultural center located on Geranios Street in the Tetuán district of Madrid. The incident occurred around 5 AM when the victim was leaving the building after the dawn prayer. Initial investigations indicate that two individuals entered the premises and confronted the victim in the lobby.

One of the attackers was armed with a gun, while the other had a knife. They cornered the man and assaulted him for several seconds before fleeing the scene. The victim suffered three knife wounds to the abdomen, and although he informed emergency responders that he had been shot, medical staff are currently unable to confirm if any of the injuries were due to a firearm or if all injuries were solely from the knife attack. This incident brings to light concerns about violence within religious centers and community spaces, raising questions about safety in such environments.

Authorities are now investigating the motive behind the attack and searching for the culprits, who managed to escape immediately after the assault. The local community may feel the repercussions of this violent act, and it could impact perceptions of safety within cultural and religious spaces in Madrid, particularly in areas with significant immigrant populations. There will likely be increased police presence and scrutiny following this incident.
