Court verdict against the teacher who assaulted a student in Zarasai
A teacher in Zarasai, Lithuania, has been found guilty of assaulting a student and has faced legal consequences including a one-year ban from teaching.
In December of last year, an incident occurred in a school in Zarasai where a teacher assaulted a minor student in the presence of other pupils. The incident involved the teacher grabbing the student by their hood and hair, and striking the child's head against a desk. Following the assault, the victim's parents reported the incident to the Zarasai district police, prompting an investigation into the matter.
During the preliminary investigation, the accused teacher admitted full responsibility for their actions. They compensated the studentβs representatives for non-material damages and also covered the medical expenses for the student's treatment. Taking into account these factors, the supervising prosecutor accepted the teacher's request to be exempted from criminal liability under a surety without bail, placing them under the responsibility of a guarantor for one year. Additionally, the prosecutor recommended that the teacher be subjected to a punitive measure prohibiting them from working in an educational capacity for one year.
The Utena district court has now confirmed these findings, solidifying the legal measures against the teacher's conduct. This case highlights the serious issue of violence in schools and raises questions about the protection of students and the role of educational institutions in preventing such incidents in the future.
