Three individuals have been charged for violations of industrial safety laws following an accident involving a drilling machine at the construction site of Daegu Manchon Station.
The Daegu Regional Employment and Labor Administration has taken action against three employees from contractor companies involved in a serious accident at the Daegu Manchon Station construction site where a drilling machine overturned. The Labor Ministry discovered several violations of industrial safety laws during its inspection of four contracting companies. Notably, deficiencies included the lack of safety railings and improper management of hazardous operation plans, leading to fines totaling 12.9 million won.
The incident, which occurred on October 4th, involved a drilling machine utilized for underground exploration, causing injuries to the operator, a taxi driver, and a passenger. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident resulted from mechanical failure of the drilling machine itself, prompting further investigations and recommendations for the machine's replacement. The administration emphasized the need for strict compliance with safety regulations moving forward to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
In response to this accident, Daegu city authorities initiated a comprehensive inspection of 39 construction sites using heavy machinery, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. The head of the Daegu Employment and Labor Administration called for heightened awareness and measures to eliminate risks within industrial work sites, underscoring that regulatory measures will be enacted to ensure worker safety in the future.
