A 20m drilling machine collapsed in Daegu, injuring 3 people
A 20-meter drilling machine collapsed at a construction site in Daegu, injuring three individuals.
In Daegu, South Korea, a construction accident occurred when a drilling machine, approximately 20 meters tall, collapsed onto a roadway. The incident took place at around 9:06 AM on April 4 at a site in the Suseong District, where underground drilling work was being conducted. The collapse resulted in minor injuries to the drilling machine operator, a taxi driver, and a passenger who were passing by at the time.
The local police have mobilized four patrol units to manage traffic and are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident. This construction site is related to the ongoing connection work for the underground passage of the Daegu Metro Line 2, which has been underway since April 2022. The project was initially scheduled for completion in July 2024; however, complications, such as the discovery of a large bedrock layer underground, have delayed the timeline to November 2027.
The accident raises concerns about safety measures and regulations in construction sites, particularly for large machinery operations in urban areas. Authorities are expected to review safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future and protect both workers and the public during construction activities in the bustling city.
