‘All vehicles equipped with the number one battery’ Benz fined 11.2 billion for deceiving consumers
The Fair Trade Commission fined Mercedes-Benz 11.2 billion won and filed charges for misleading consumers about battery specifications in their vehicles.
The Fair Trade Commission of South Korea has sanctioned Mercedes-Benz with a hefty fine of 11.2 billion won, citing deceptive practices regarding the battery specifications in their electric vehicle models. The allegations emerged after it was discovered that Mercedes-Benz marketed certain electric vehicle models, including the EQE and EQS, as being equipped only with batteries from CATL, the world's largest battery cell manufacturer. In what the Commission described as an attempt to mislead consumers, the company failed to disclose that some models were actually fitted with batteries from another manufacturer, Parasis, which led to charges of unfair customer inducement and has resulted in a formal complaint against the company.
