'Stretch' Line 1 and 'fasten' Line 4 to Castellana: Madrid's plans to bring Metro to 175,000 people in Nuevo Norte
Madrid is set to expand its Metro network to benefit over 175,000 residents in the Nuevo Norte area as part of a comprehensive urban development plan.
The Community of Madrid has initiated a public consultation on plans to expand the Metro network to better serve the upcoming urban development in Nuevo Norte, which centers around the Chamartín station. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance mobility in the city as it prepares for future population growth. Key transport official Jorge Rodrigo emphasized the need for balanced budgets between subsidies and maintaining existing railway networks.
As the population in the area is projected to rise significantly, the proposed extensions aim to provide efficient transport options to streamline connectivity for residents. The expansion is pivotal in accommodating the influx expected from the development projects, which include residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. By extending Line 1 and enhancing Line 4, authorities hope to alleviate traffic congestion and support sustainable urban growth.
The consultation launched by the Madrid Transport Ministry indicates a proactive approach to address urban mobility challenges. If these changes are implemented, it is anticipated to significantly improve the daily commuting experience for over 175,000 people, integrating them into the city’s broader transport network and enhancing their accessibility to key destinations within Madrid.
