Lenise Pinheiro launches new book with photos from Teatro Oficina

Photographer Lenise Pinheiro releases her second volume of photographs dedicated to Teatro Oficina, showcasing performances over a decade.

Lenise Pinheiro, a prominent photographer, has announced the launch of her new book titled ‘Teatro Oficina: fotografias – Vol. 2’ on Thursday, which will occur at the Teatro Oficina in Bela Vista, São Paulo. The event includes a discussion featuring notable figures such as the president of Funarte, Maria Marighella, and members of the Teatro Oficina, Camila Mota and Marcelo Drummond, along with journalist Claudio Leal. This second volume is a continuation of her photographic journey with the theatre, capturing its vibrant performances and narratives over the past decade.

The first book in this series was published in 2014 and featured around 500 photographs chronicling four decades of Teatro Oficina's shows. In contrast, the second volume focuses on performances from 2014 through to December 2024, highlighting the evolution of the theatre company and its performances by renowned artists. One unique chapter of the book, titled ‘Tragycomédiaorgya’, pays homage to prominent actors linked to the theatre's history, including icons such as Fernanda Montenegro, Fernanda Torres, and Sônia Braga, emphasizing the theatre's impact on Brazilian cultural life.

Pinheiro has had a close relationship with Teatro Oficina, having documented its journey since the early 1980s, and her work is recognized for capturing the essence of Brazilian theatre. Her contributions to the arts have been honored, including receiving the prestigious Prêmio Funarte Mestras e Mestres das Artes in 2025, acknowledging her significant influence and dedication to documenting this vital aspect of Brazilian culture through her photography.
