Heavy rain causes flooding, falling trees, and power outages in Divinópolis
Heavy rain in Divinópolis resulted in significant flooding, fallen trees, and power outages across various neighborhoods.
The heavy rain that hit Divinópolis on Monday afternoon led to numerous disruptions in the city. Reports indicated flooding, fallen trees, and interruptions in electrical service in several neighborhoods. The inclement weather was attributed to a cold front moving in from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with forecasts predicting continued rain and maximum temperatures of 25 ºC for the week ahead.
One of the most affected areas was the Municipal Funeral Service on Antônio Olímpio de Morais Avenue, where water inundated the premises. Employees at the facility had to climb onto chairs to avoid contact with the water, which reached approximately 30 centimeters inside the building. As a result, the facility was temporarily closed, and services were relocated to another address on José Balbino Pereira Street in the Espírito Santo neighborhood until conditions improve.
The city is facing various challenges due to the weather, including navigation difficulties on major roads, as floodwaters have made travel hazardous. Local authorities are working to address the issues, ensuring that citizens are informed and safe during these adverse weather conditions. The situation highlights the ongoing need for infrastructure improvements in Divinópolis to better handle extreme weather events in the future.
