MP-RO requests that adolescent suspected of killing grandfather and attempting to kill grandmother remain hospitalized

The Public Ministry of Rondônia (MP-RO) has requested that a teenager suspected of murdering her grandfather and attempting to murder her grandmother remain hospitalized while the case is under review.

On Monday, the Public Ministry of Rondônia (MP-RO) made a request to the judiciary concerning a teenage girl suspected of murdering her grandfather, José dos Santos, and attempting to murder her grandmother, Maria Aparecida. The request aims for the adolescent to remain hospitalized throughout the legal process. The tragic events unfolded on the night of February 24 in Ariquemes, where initial investigations suggest that the crime may have been premeditated and motivated by a desire for revenge.

The circumstances surrounding the crime are particularly brutal, with reports indicating that the grandparents were at home when they were shot. José dos Santos died at the scene after being shot in the neck, while Maria Aparecida was gravely injured, sustaining gunshot wounds to her face and chest. She was rescued and is currently recovering at the Regional Hospital of Ariquemes, having left the Intensive Care Unit but still facing a long recovery after several surgeries. As of now, there are no indications regarding when she might be discharged from the hospital.

In connection with the investigation, the Civil Police are exploring the possibility that other individuals may have been involved in the incident. Following the shootings, the suspect, who had fled the scene, is now under provisional hospitalization at the Juvenile Detention Center. This case sheds light on issues of violence within family dynamics, and the MP-RO’s push for the suspect to remain in a controlled environment reflects concerns over the safety of the community and the legal handling of juvenile offenders in serious crimes.
