MP-RO receives inquiry about case of adolescent found dead in Porto Velho
The Public Ministry of Rondônia has received the police inquiry regarding the death of a 16-year-old girl, Marta Isabelle, who was found in appalling conditions.
The Public Ministry of Rondônia (MP-RO) has officially received the police inquiry into the case of 16-year-old Marta Isabelle dos Santos, who was found dead under shocking circumstances in her home in Porto Velho. Marta was reportedly kept in conditions of severe imprisonment where she faced constant abuse and deprivation. Investigations revealed that she was forced to eat scraps meant for animals, sleep on the floor, and was physically restrained to prevent her from leaving her room. Additionally, she lacked basic access to potable water and hygiene.
The police have concluded that Marta was subjected to cruel treatment by her father, Callebe José da Silva, her stepmother, Ivanice Farias de Souza, and her grandmother, Benedita Maria da Silva, all of whom may face legal consequences depending on the MP-RO's forthcoming decisions. When discovered, Marta was found lying on a bed, covered by a blanket, and wearing a disposable diaper, which underlines the critical gaps in the welfare support that should have protected her.
This case has raised significant concerns regarding child welfare and the responsibilities of authorities in preventing such tragedies. The Public Ministry's next steps in deciding whether to file formal charges will be closely watched by the community and advocates for children's rights, as it will reflect on broader issues of domestic violence and the systemic failures that allow such neglect to persist.
