Delayed construction saves family from being buried by rockslide in ES
A construction delay prevented a family in Afonso Cláudio, Brazil, from being at their home during a rockslide that buried their house.
A rockslide occurred in Afonso Cláudio, Espírito Santo, on Friday, burying a house that was under construction. Fortunately, a delay in the completion of the house meant that the family, which included two children aged six and eleven, had not yet moved in. At the time of the accident, only Fábio da Silva, a 44-year-old worker, was on-site, and he managed to escape with only minor injuries.
The incident took place in the Córrego do Firme area, approximately 16 kilometers from the city center. Fábio's wife, Ariane Pereira, expressed relief for her husband's survival despite the loss of material possessions, which had significant value to the family. They relocated to the area from Vila Velha to raise their daughters close to their grandparents, highlighting the importance of family ties in their decision.
As the family assesses the damage, this situation underscores the unpredictability of natural disasters, as well as the crucial role that timing plays in such events. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of living in areas prone to geological instability, and it raises questions about construction practices and safety measures in similar regions.
