President of Palmeiras, state director, and CEO of bank refuse invitation to CPMI of INSS
The president of Palmeiras and two other invited guests have declined to attend the CPMI hearing regarding payroll loans, citing prior commitments.
Leila Pereira, the president of Palmeiras, along with Rodrigo Ortiz D´Avila, president of Dataprev, and Artur Ildefonso Azevedo, CEO of Banco C6 Consignado, have all declined invitations to provide testimony for the CPMI investigating payroll loans associated with the INSS. Pereira cited her attendance at the award ceremony for Palmeiras, who recently won the Paulista championship, as her reason for not attending. Since they were not formally summoned, they had the option to refuse the invitation.
In a written statement to the CPMI, D´Avila explained his absence was due to medical obligations and a prior international trip, though he expressed willingness to attend a session after March 21. This situation highlights the challenges faced by the CPMI in obtaining testimonies from key figures involved in the controversial payroll loans linked to social security. The inability to gather testimonies from these significant players may delay the investigation while raising questions about accountability.
The CPMI aims to examine the role of various stakeholders in payroll loans that have come under scrutiny for potential irregularities. The refusal of influential figures like Pereira, D´Avila, and Azevedo may set a precedent that could discourage other key witnesses from appearing, impacting the efficacy of the investigation. As the CPMI proceeds, it will be essential to address these challenges in order to maintain the integrity of the inquiry and ensure transparency in the dealings surrounding the INSS payroll loans.
