Opera 'Oedipus' in Samborondón, this Wednesday, March 11, in homage to the composer George Enescu

The National Opera of Bucharest is presenting the opera 'Oedipus' in Samborondón as part of a project honoring composer George Enescu.

The National Opera of Bucharest, the George Enescu National Museum, and the Honorary Consulate of Romania in Guayaquil are launching a musical project titled 'Enescu within Everyone's Reach.' This project, presented in a concert-lecture format, aims to familiarize the public with the work of Romanian composer George Enescu, a significant figure in 20th-century European music. The event features presentations led by acclaimed Romanian baritone Stefan Ignat.

The program focuses on Enescu's opera 'Oedipus,' which is widely regarded as his masterpiece. During the concert, the Romanian artists will perform key segments from the opera, including the monologue from Act II, the final lament, the aria 'Goodbye, Antigone,' and the Sphinx's aria. An important aspect of the performance will be the explanation of how Enescu incorporated Romanian folklore elements into his musical language, creating a unique synthesis of popular tradition and modern symphonic writing.

Lasting approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, this musical experience aims to provide an accessible and enriching event for music lovers. It seeks not only to entertain but also to educate the audience on the cultural significance of Enescu's composition and its relevance in both Romanian and broader European musical landscapes.
