Anušić welcomed the first recruits: Basic military training begins in Knin, Slunj, and Požega

Croatian Defence Minister Ivan Anušić announced the start of basic military training for 800 recruits in three cities, marking a significant return to mandatory service after its abolition in 2008.

Croatian Defence Minister Ivan Anušić announced the reintroduction of mandatory basic military training (TVO), with 800 recruits officially starting their training in military barracks located in Knin, Slunj, and Požega. This initiative marks a pivotal step as the system of mandatory military service was discontinued in 2008, reflecting a new commitment to enhance national defense capabilities and foster civic responsibility among young citizens.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the recruitment numbers, highlighting that not only were there fulfilling responses from conscripts, both mandatory and voluntary, but there were also only a few conscientious objector claims. Specifically, Anušić noted the enrollment included 82 women, showcasing a notable trend toward inclusivity and greater participation of women in the military sector, which has been traditionally dominated by men.

Minister Anušić advised recruits to heed the guidance of their instructors and assimilate the knowledge imparted during their training. He emphasized the skills and knowledge acquired during these two months of training which are unique to military service, underlining the opportunity for young Croatian citizens to learn important life skills while serving their country, potentially influencing their future paths personally and professionally.
