Reetta Hurske out of the World Championships
Finnish hurdler Reetta Hurske will not compete in the upcoming World Indoor Championships due to insufficient preparation.
Reetta Hurske, a Finnish hurdler, has withdrawn from the World Indoor Championships scheduled to take place from March 20 to 22 in Toruล, Poland. The Finnish Athletics Federation announced this decision on Monday, stating that Hurske is unable to prepare adequately for the competition. Despite her ability to compete in national-level events, she recognizes that the level of competition at the World Championships would be beyond her current readiness.
In the official statement from the Finnish Athletics Federation, Hurske explained her position, indicating that while she could manage to compete similarly to her performance in the Finnish Indoor Championships, such efforts would not suffice in a world-class setting. This insight illustrates the high standard and competitive nature of the World Championships, highlighting the demands placed on athletes to reach peak performance under international scrutiny.
Additionally, the federation has announced the inclusion of two new athletes to the team headed for Toruล: sprinter Riku Illukka and hurdler Santeri Kuusiniemi. Alongside them, Finland will be represented by sprinters Lotta Kemppinen and Mette Baas, as well as hurdler Elmo Lakka. The final selections will be made on Thursday, March 12, after the athlete lists have been updated and confirmations from qualified athletes are finalized.
