Lotta Harala: Competition season over – devastating update about the breakup
Finnish athlete Lotta Harala announced the end of her competition season after winning the Finnish championship in the 60-meter hurdles but has decided not to participate in the upcoming indoor World Championships due to personal reasons following a breakup.
Lotta Harala, a prominent athlete in hurdling, concluded her winter competition season at the Finnish Championships held in Espoo, where she secured the title in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.00 seconds. Despite this achievement, she has made the decision not to compete in the Indoor World Championships scheduled for late March in Torun, Poland, citing practical concerns regarding her training schedule. Harala expressed that delaying the start of her spring training by over three weeks would not be wise for her athletic development.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Harala elaborated on her decision to skip the World Championships, revealing that she is still grappling with the emotional fallout from her breakup with former professional ice hockey player Matias Myttynen. The couple had been together for more than 12 years and engaged since 2021, with Myttynen also serving as her coach. Harala noted that navigating her competitive season while coping with the end of a significant relationship has been particularly challenging and emotional.
As she moves forward, Harala's focus is on her mental and emotional well-being, emphasizing that while some may suggest she should draw strength from sport during tough times, she must prioritize her healing process. This journey may impact her performance and decisions in future competitions as she balances her personal life with her athletic ambitions.
