Rosatom Staff, Family Readies for Evacuation From Iran
The Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom is preparing to evacuate staff and their families from Iran amid U.S.-Israeli strikes.
Russia's state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, is organizing the evacuation of up to 200 of its staff at the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran, alongside their family members, due to ongoing airstrikes conducted by the U.S. and Israel. The decision comes in light of heightened military actions that began on February 28, leading Rosatom to first evacuate 94 non-essential employees and their children, while continuing to maintain critical operations with the remaining personnel.
Rosatom's CEO, Alexei Likhachyov, emphasized that they have already arranged transportation and evacuation routes for the staff, indicating that they would be moved to safety during brief pauses in the bombardment. He noted that efforts are ongoing to ensure that essential tasks at the plant are managed without interruption, reflecting a commitment to maintaining operational capacity despite the escalating situation. Furthermore, Likhachyov stated that President Vladimir Putin is directly engaged in securing the safety of these personnel and is monitoring the situation closely.
In addition to the physical evacuation arrangements, a hotline has been established for family members in Russia to receive updates regarding their loved ones working in Iran. This proactive approach highlights the importance placed by the Russian government on ensuring the welfare of its citizens abroad, especially under the precarious conditions resulting from international military conflicts.
