German prisoners who built a neighborhood in Goiânia arrived in the capital after an agreement with the English government, study says

A study reveals that around 50 Nazi prisoners came to Goiânia in 1950 to construct a neighborhood, following an agreement between the local government and the English government.

According to a study conducted by architect Mariana Vieira, about 50 German prisoners of war were brought to Goiânia in 1950 after an agreement made by Governor Coimbra Bueno with the English government. Their task was to construct the Setor Jaó neighborhood, one of the most prestigious areas in the city, which drew inspiration from pre-World War II German urban planning standards. The endeavor was part of a broader rehabilitation effort post-war.
