Winner of the Brasília auction will have to manage 8 airports in the Midwest, 1 in PR, and 1 in BA

The winning company of the Brasília airport auction will be required to manage eight airports in the Midwest region, one in Paraná, and one in Bahia as part of a larger federal concession plan.

The auction for the Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport in Brasília will not only determine the management of this significant airport but also involve the administration of eight other airports scattered throughout the Midwest region of Brazil and two additional airports in Paraná and Bahia. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the federal government to consolidate regional airports under larger existing concessions, providing a more comprehensive management framework and potentially enhancing operational efficiency.

The Ministry of Ports and Airports plans to include these regional airports in the bidding process, and the current concessionaire, Inframérica, will be mandated to submit a bid to ensure active participation from at least one company. The expectation is that the model for this auction will be brought to the plenary of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) in April, with the hope of finalizing the new concession in the second half of this year.

This strategic move reflects the government's commitment to improving airport infrastructure and connectivity across the country, particularly in less commercially viable regions. By placing smaller airports under the management of larger concessionaires, the government aims to draw more investment and streamline operations, thereby facilitating better transport options and boosting local economies in these areas.
