The army's arsenals have been supplemented with AMRAAM and Spike LR2 missiles
Lithuania is enhancing its air defense capabilities by acquiring AMRAAM and Spike LR2 missiles, as confirmed by Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas.
The Lithuanian army is bolstering its air defense capabilities with the addition of new AMRAAM missiles, designed for medium-range aerial defense, which will be supported by the NASAMS systems. This year, Lithuania plans to add a new battery to its arsenal, emphasizing a strong commitment to enhancing national defense capabilities. Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas highlighted that this is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Lithuania's armed forces are well-equipped with necessary munitions.
In addition to air defense systems, Lithuania is also incorporating the modern Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles into its armament. These missiles are noted for their rapid response capability and significant firepower, intended for the destruction of tanks, armored vehicles, and other high-value targets. The integration of Spike LR2 into the Lithuanian infantry fighting vehicles, specifically the "Vilkas" combat vehicles, will enhance their effectiveness by allowing them to engage targets at greater distances.
This procurement of advanced armaments reflects Lithuania's strategic focus on strengthening its military capabilities amid evolving regional security challenges. By investing in sophisticated missile systems, Lithuania aims to deter potential threats and enhance the operational effectiveness of its military forces, aligning with NATO standards and ensuring readiness in a complex security environment.
