A 63-year-old driver died in a serious accident on MGC-497 in Uberlândia when his car entered the wrong lane and collided with a truck.
A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening on MGC-497 in Uberlândia, resulting in the death of a 63-year-old driver. The incident took place around 19h30 at kilometer 40 of the highway. According to the police report, the driver was operating a Corsa Sedan that entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with a truck-trailer that was traveling towards Uberlândia.
Witnesses and the truck driver, who is 35 years old, noted that he was unable to avoid the collision due to the lack of a shoulder on that stretch of the road, hindering any possible evasive maneuvers. The impact was severe, causing the Corsa to be thrown off the road and leaving it utterly destroyed, with the driver trapped in the wreckage until emergency services could respond.
The local fire department was called to the scene to rescue the trapped driver. Following the accident, G1 reached out to the Department of Highways of Minas Gerais (DER-MG) to inquire about the conditions of that section of the highway, and they are currently awaiting a response. The incident highlights concerns over road safety and the need for better infrastructure in the region.
