Military expert: The cluster missile at the heart of Israel is a 'fiery message' after the election of Mojtaba

A military expert discusses the implications of the new Iranian leadership and a recent missile launch targeting Israel.

Military and strategic expert Colonel Nidal Abu Zaid commented on the election of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new Supreme Leader, asserting that it has transformed into a direct military political message reinforced by recent events. He highlighted a significant missile launch into Israel that involved a cluster missile carrying 24 smaller units, designed to spread across a large area. This development suggests a new phase of confrontation has begun, with escalation emerging as the main theme.

Abu Zaid elaborated that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was the obvious choice for leadership, but the implications for the region are complex and precarious. He noted that Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which is the primary supporter of this appointment, continues to control the military equation and dynamics. Thus, he argued that the change in Supreme Leader will not significantly alter Iran's military strategy, as their overarching tactics remain intact despite shifts in leadership.

Furthermore, he pointed out the fundamental differences between Iran and its adversaries, namely the U.S. and Israel. Iran's strategy is one of attrition aimed at achieving maximum objectives over an extended period, while the U.S. and Israel are focused on obtaining as many strategic goals as possible in a shorter timeframe. This contrast sets the stage for an ongoing rivalry, especially in light of heightened tensions post-election and military actions.
