Military Expert: Iranian Hypersonic Missiles Change the Rules of Engagement
A military expert reveals that Iran's recent use of hypersonic missiles in attacks on Israel marks a significant escalation in conflict and poses unprecedented challenges to defense systems.
Military expert and strategist Elias Hanna stated that Iran's recent deployment of hypersonic missiles in its attacks on Israel represents a dangerous and qualitative escalation in the ongoing conflict. He highlighted that the missile capabilities displayed go beyond what is publicly acknowledged in open sources, creating unprecedented challenges for both Israeli and American aerial defense systems. According to Hanna, the concentrated Iranian strikes primarily targeted the greater Tel Aviv area, as well as northern and southern regions of Israel, involving an intense barrage that reportedly included around 200 missiles launched in just a few hours.
Hanna pointed out that previously the number of projected attacks was thought to be about 125 missiles. This intensified missile strategy was demonstrated with additional barrages that revealed the extent of destruction in some of the targeted areas. The key highlight of this escalation is the announcement of the use of the 'Fattah 1' hypersonic missile, which represents a significant asset for Iran due to its high speed and maneuverability, making it exceedingly difficult to intercept using conventional aerial defense systems.
Furthermore, Hanna noted that conventional defense systems like the 'Patriot' and 'THAAD' are not designed to engage hypersonic threats. This limitation emphasizes the need for a reassessment of strategic defense capabilities in light of evolving threats like those posed by Iranian missile technology. The strategic implications of this development could potentially shift the balance of power in the region, warranting a close observation of how geopolitical dynamics may evolve in response to these advancements.
