In February 2023, the Namibian police conducted a significant crackdown on drug-related offenses, resulting in the seizure of a variety of illicit substances and the arrest of 196 suspects. According to Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the operations took place throughout the month, highlighting the police's ongoing commitment to combatting illegal drug trade and usage in the country.

The seized drugs included substantial quantities of cannabis, mandrax tablets, cocaine powder, crack cocaine, and abortion tablets, demonstrating the scale of the illicit drug problem faced by Namibia. Most of those arrested were Namibian nationals, but the police also apprehended individuals from neighboring countries such as Angola, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania, indicating the regional nature of the drug trade.

Shikwambi emphasized the police's determination to enforce the law and combat illegal drug activities. The operations reflect not only the local efforts to enhance public safety and reduce drug-related crime but also highlight the need for cooperation between regional authorities to address the transnational nature of drug trafficking in Southern Africa.
