HSL starts large co-determination negotiations
HSL has announced the initiation of extensive co-determination negotiations affecting its entire organization, which may lead to staff layoffs and changes in contracts.
Helsingin seudun liikenne (HSL) has decided to commence large co-determination negotiations that will involve 433 personnel within the organization. The negotiations could result in the termination of up to 48 employees or officials, with an additional 99 employees facing potential changes in their job contracts or roles. These discussions are set to begin on March 16 and are expected to last for six weeks, concluding on April 27, with a new organizational structure anticipated to take effect on June 1.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, HSL assures that the availability of services and customer service will continue to operate normally. Notably, the negotiations will not impact HSL’s drivers, as they are not classified as employees of HSL. The impetus for these negotiations aligns with HSL's need to enhance operational efficiency, adapt to a tightening economic situation, and ensure that the staff possesses the necessary skills to meet strategic objectives. This organizational restructuring reflects a broader trend in the transport sector where companies are seeking to streamline operations amidst economic pressures.
The decision to enter into these negotiations underscores the challenges faced by public transport organizations in managing resources effectively under financial constraints. With an increasing demand for sustainable transport solutions, HSL's actions may influence how public transport is provided in the Helsinki region. Stakeholders and the public will be keenly observing the outcomes of these negotiations, as they may set a precedent for future operational changes within HSL and comparable organizations in the field of public transport in Finland.
