VIDEO: Rain Destroys Crossfit Gym in South Zone of São Paulo; Damage Exceeds R$ 500 Thousand

A CrossFit gym in the Saúde neighborhood of São Paulo was completely destroyed by heavy rain, resulting in damages exceeding R$ 500,000.

A CrossFit gym, Yellow Monkey Academia, located in the Saúde neighborhood of São Paulo's South Zone, suffered severe destruction due to torrential rain on Sunday afternoon. Security footage captured the water flooding into the gym, demolishing walls and wreaking havoc on the premises. The interior of the gym sustained significant damage as equipment was ruined and materials used for classes were swept away.

The owners of the gym reported that the financial loss from the incident is estimated to be over R$ 500,000. In the wake of this disaster, they have initiated an online crowdfunding campaign to help mitigate the costs, which has already raised almost R$ 35,000 from supportive donors. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported as the gym was closed at the time of the flooding, being a Sunday.

This incident underscores the vulnerability of local businesses to extreme weather events, particularly in urban areas like São Paulo where drainage systems may be insufficient to handle heavy rainfall. As the owners work to assess the full extent of the damage and begin recovery efforts, the situation highlights the crucial importance of infrastructure improvements in mitigating similar events in the future.
