Africa: Govt Leases Former Livestock Research Land to Africa Tech University in Tororo
The Ugandan government has leased land to Africa Tech University to foster education and development in Tororo District.
The Ugandan government has initiated a significant development plan by leasing a large 700-hectare property in Tororo District to the newly established Africa Tech University. This property, which formerly housed the National Livestock Resources Research Institute, is currently being renovated to facilitate the university's operations. Once operational, the university is expected to focus on critical areas such as science, technology, innovation, and research, aiming to enhance the educational landscape in the region.
During a recent meeting with local district leaders, retired Principal Judge James Ogoola highlighted the potential positive impact of the university on local development. He emphasized that the establishment of Africa Tech University could mirror the rapid growth witnessed in Mukono, a district that underwent significant transformation after the introduction of universities. The expectation is that Africa Tech University will not only serve as an educational institution but also as a catalyst for economic growth, leading to job creation and improved living standards for the residents of Tororo.
The implementation of this project signifies the government's commitment to promoting higher education in Uganda. With Africa Tech University aiming to provide advanced learning opportunities, there is hope that it will attract both local and international students, thereby contributing to the diversification and skill enhancement of the workforce in Tororo and beyond. As preparations progress, the community looks forward to reaping the benefits of this initiative, which is anticipated to position Tororo as a major center for higher education in the region.
