FG to kickstart solar project in new Oyo varsity
The Nigerian Federal Government is set to initiate a one-megawatt solar electrification project at the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Oyo State, aimed at enhancing sustainable energy access in universities.
The Nigerian Federal Government has announced the commencement of a significant one-megawatt solar electrification project at the newly established Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, in Oyo State. This project is a part of a broader initiative by the government to enhance infrastructure and sustainability in higher education institutions. The announcement was made through a statement by Dr. Bolaji Olaomo, the Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, indicating a positive move toward improved energy solutions in academic settings.
Facilitated by the Rural Electrification Agency, this solar project is intended to provide clean and renewable energy to 16 universities across Nigeria. FUNATO is highlighted as a key recipient of this initiative, which also includes other notable institutions such as Adeyemi University of Education and the Federal University of Health Sciences, Oyan. This strategic alignment not only demonstrates the commitment of the government towards renewable energy but also underscores the importance of sustainable practices in education.
The universityβs leadership, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jacob Babayemi, recently engaged in a consultative meeting with representatives from the Rural Electrification Agency and the Onjo-in-Council, the traditional advisory body of the host community. This collaboration signifies an effort to integrate academic advancement with sustainable local development, promising a brighter future of energy access for students and staff at the university while setting a precedent for similar projects in the region.
