7 popular toys urgently recalled this week as even more 'contaminated'

A recall has been issued for several popular toys, including ORB Funkee Sand Toys, due to potential asbestos contamination.

This week, an urgent recall has been issued for a range of popular toys, with particular emphasis on the ORB Funkee Sand Toys, which have been found to pose a potential health risk. The recall comes amidst growing concerns about contamination, as several toy products have been pulled from market shelves recently due to similar fears. The sand included in these toys is suspected to contain small quantities of asbestos, a substance known for serious health risks and strictly regulated in consumer products.

The affected toys, which are stretchy and sand-filled, were available for purchase both online and in physical stores at various retailers, including The Entertainer, Tesco, Matalan, Hobbycraft, and British Garden Centres. These toys were sold from July 2025 to February 2026, and consumers are advised to stop using them immediately. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) communicated that the health risks associated with asbestos justify the urgency of this recall, emphasizing the necessity for consumer safety in the toy industry.

As concerns over product safety and contamination continue to rise, this incident highlights the critical importance of regulatory vigilance in ensuring that toys and children's products do not pose risks to health. With the recall of these toys, parents and guardians are urged to check for affected products at home and remain informed to protect their children from potential hazards. This situation underscores a broader scrutiny on toy manufacturing practices, potentially leading to more rigorous safety assessments in the future.
