Allowance: New €400 million voucher for households - How much you'll receive and how much you'll spend
The Greek government has introduced a national food assistance system with a €400 million budget to provide financial support directly to households through vouchers.
The Greek government has activated a unified national food assistance system with a budget of €400 million, enabling financial support directly to households through vouchers instead of predetermined product packages. This initiative aims to simplify the distribution of aid, streamlining the process to minimize bureaucracy and improve transparency across the country.
In this new system, citizens will benefit from a standardized regulation nationwide, which is expected to decrease the complexity of the aid process and enhance its efficiency. The announcement was made through a Joint Ministerial Decision by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, and the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis, drawing attention to the modernization of the framework for Priority 6 "Food Aid & Material Deprivation" of the "Human Capital and Social Cohesion 2021–2027" program.
Under this new arrangement, the funds will be provided via electronic vouchers redeemable for food and essential goods. Eligible households will have the freedom to decide what to purchase, when to buy it, and from which stores, providing them with more autonomy and control over their food choices, thereby making the assistance more relevant and tailored to their needs.
