"Savings": 25 actions €5.3 billion for vulnerable households, businesses, energy, and transport

The Greek government has unveiled a comprehensive package of 25 interventions worth €5.3 billion aimed at supporting vulnerable households and businesses in energy upgrades and transport solutions.

The Greek government, through its Vice President Kostis Hatzidakis, Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, and Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis, announced a significant initiative comprising 25 actions totaling €5.3 billion. This comprehensive program is designed to provide support for vulnerable households and businesses aiming to invest in energy-efficient upgrades of buildings, social housing, and public and private transport infrastructure.

Key components of the initiative include the 'Savings' programs targeting the energy upgrade of 62,000 homes and 10,000 small businesses. Additional measures involve the installation of 280,000 heat pumps and solar water heaters in residences, the construction of 2,350 homes to accommodate vulnerable families, and an increase in heating allowances by up to €100 per year. Furthermore, the actions extend to the acquisition of new electric buses and metro trains, along with a 'social leasing' scheme for electric vehicles aimed at households with heightened transport needs.

This initiative represents a significant evolution in Greece's approach to addressing energy efficiency and social welfare amid rising costs. By investing in such comprehensive measures, the Greek government aims to alleviate financial burdens on at-risk groups while also promoting sustainable development through green technology and energy-efficient practices, potentially paving the way for long-term economic and environmental benefits for the nation.
