A new DANA will bring rain and instability to the Peninsula

A new DANA weather system is expected to bring heavy rain and instability to several regions in Spain this week, particularly between Monday and Wednesday.

The Spanish meteorological agency Aemet forecasts that the arrival of a new DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos) system will lead to significant rainfall across the Iberian Peninsula. While specific details of its trajectory remain uncertain, heavy rains are predicted primarily from Monday to Wednesday. Aemet's spokesperson, Rubén del Campo, highlighted that this system could result in severe weather conditions, especially in areas like the northern Balearic Islands and the northeast regions of Spain.

As the week commences, six communities in Spain are under yellow alerts, which indicates a low danger level but still raises concerns for residents. Three of these alerts pertain to snowfalls, particularly in mountainous areas of the Cantabrian Mountain range and the Central system, with notable accumulations expected. Moreover, the Balearic Islands are on alert for intense rainfall, while regions of Galicia and the Canary Islands are cautioned about coastal phenomena, indicating a widespread impact from this weather event.

Local weather conditions forecast mostly cloudy skies with intermittent heavy rainfall in many areas. The situation is complicated by the possibility of thunderstorms, accompanied by hail in select regions, particularly affecting the northern Balearic Islands and parts of northeastern Spain. As meteorologists track the DANA system’s progression, residents are advised to stay updated on weather warnings and prepare for potential disruptions throughout the week.
